Anna Yanchenko

Anna is a Ukrainian winemaker, wine buyer and author, living in Poland. Her interest in winemaking began at a young age, and she went on to pursue this interest by completing a Master’s Degree in Sensory Analysis in Food Technology, as well as various wine courses including the WSET Level 3, “Biochemical Analysis of Wine” and “Modern Viticulture and Winemaking”. Anna enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion, and as such she actively posts about winemaking and viticulture on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. She has taught WSET Levels 1 and 2 in Kyiv, and published a beginner’s guide to wine - indeed, she is now working with the same publisher on a history of the wines and winemaking of Ukraine, uncovering information which was largely hidden during Soviet rule. She has also gained practical experience in both the cellar and the vineyard, working in Piedmont during the 2014 vintage, and then in Rioja for the 2018 vintage. Tragically, Anna’s work in Ukraine has been negatively impacted by the war: her home in the Kharkiv region was occupied for several months, and the area surrounding it has been heavily mined. Undeterred, Anna is determined to continue progressing with her journey in the wine industry. Her second book is nearing completion, and she is excited to begin her internship with Artémis as she feels it will be a fantastic opportunity to “advocate for the importance of international experience for Ukrainian winemakers”, as well as giving her new knowledge and skills with which to “contribute to the restoration of damaged wineries in Ukraine and elevate the overall quality of Ukrainian winemaking”.
